TOLERANCE AND MULTICULTURALISM

Venette Cook and Nancy Husari (CCSF ESL instructors) created the Lessons in Tolerance website. The site is intended as a resource for teachers to get lesson plans on subjects related to tolerance. It's also a place for students to express themselves on this issue. In other words, THE LESSONS IN TOLERANCE WEBSITE IS YOUR WEBSITE! Do you have any ideas for things that you would like to see on this website?

The Lessons in Tolerance Website

Many of the links below were found in Dave Sperling's Internet Guide.  Many thanks to Dave Sperling for these great resources:

American Studies Web
http://www.georgetown.edu/crossroads/asw/
This website is like a search engine that covers many topics related to American Studes.  Some of the topics are more relevant to multiculturalism than other, but it's a very interesting and worthwhile website to look at.

Multicultural Pavillion
http://curry.edschool.virginia.edu/go/multicultural/home.html
This is a very rich resource with a variety of topics to choose from. If you are a student, you may have to search through many resources for teachers, but it's worth the search.  In particular, the link below is recommended:

Multicultural Paths
http://curry.edschool.virginia.edu/go/multicultural/sites1.html

More sites:

Multicultural Holidays
http://curry.edschool.virginia.edu/go/it/products/holidays
This site is simple, but has a few interesting links, such as:

Project Capetown
http://curry.edschool.virginia.edu/go/capetown
This is a study of three schools that were among the first to become integrated in South Africa.  This website is old, so a lot of the links don't work, but if you are interested in South Africa, there are other active links here to other websites.

Multicultural Home Page
http://pasture.ecn.purdue.edu/~agenhtml/agenmc/
Choose from a list of several countries.  Get a description, music samples, recipes, etc.

NativeWeb
http://www.nativeweb.org/
This website is about indigenous cultures all over the world.

This lesson was done in a Level 58 class.  It includes readings from the Lessons in Tolerance website, and examples of student writing.
