These directions are for a PC and Netscape. If
you are using a MAC, go
to this link.
When you are "surfing the web" for research or personal use, you may want to collect some urls of interesting websites, with some notes about them.
If you are looking at an interesting website, you can go to BOOKMARKS
(on the menu at the top of your screen) , and choose ADD CURRENT
PAGE or ADD BOOKMARK (This may be slightly different on different
versions of Netscape) from the pull-down menu.
If this is your home computer, this is convenient because you can go
back to this BOOKMARK on the bookmark pull-down menu at the top of
your screen.
If you are not on your home computer, or if you want to create a hotlist of websites for a project you are working on, you can follow these directions.
1. Create a bookmark using the directions above.
2. Go back to BOOKMARKS at the top of your screen and
choose MANAGE or EDIT BOOKMARKS. A long list of bookmarks
will appear on your screen. The most recent bookmarks will be at
the bottom of that list.
3. If you want to write a description or notes about this bookmark, HIGHLIGHT the bookmark.
4. Right click.
5. Choose PROPERTIES or BOOKMARK PROPERTIES.
6. In the box marked DESCRIPTION, you can type anything you want about this bookmark.
7. Go to FILE on the menu bar at the top of your screen. (IMPORTANT: You must still be in MANAGE or EDIT BOOKMARKS.) Save ALL OF YOUR BOOKMARKS on your floppy disk (or wherever you want if you're on your home computer. You can not save only some of the bookmarks at this point.
8. By finishing Step 7, you will have created a new document.
Open this new document. HIGHLIGHT and COPY only the bookmarks that you
want, PASTE them onto a new MS Word document, and you will have
something
that looks like this. Name your document, and add anything that you
want to it.
Note: What you will see is a live link of the name of the website
and the description you wrote. It is often useful to copy the url
under the name of the website. There are simple ways to cut and paste
the url onto your hotlist.
